Hello Everyone:
I was just assisting mom with her latest round of phone fits. Mom's fits seem to be pretty typical of older people adjusting to smartphones. You know, I've always had a problem with the word smartphone because it's like how dumb are people that they need their phones to do their thinking for them. Apparently we must be pretty dumb if we've so dependent on them. Back to my original point. I keep telling mom that she should go to the service provider store and let someone, who's more patient than I, help her out. Either that or bother sis about it. I will say this, I'm finding humor in all this. Most of the humor is watching mom rant and rave. I've decided to take a bit of a tough love approach and let (make) her figure it out for herself. That's the only way to learn how to use one's devices. Push or tap every button, let the thing crash before you finally get it. I learned my way around a computer that way. Instruction booklets are all well and fine but I really prefer to figure it out myself. If I need help, then I consult the booklet. The other funny thing is mom decided her phone was a man because, she reckons, only a man would be so difficult. I guess some of her difficulties have to do with age but my BIL is also pretty dim witted when comes to technology. I guess some people are not digitally inclined. My niece and nephews, on the other hand, were born with devices in their hands, metaphorically. Oh well, some of are more adept than others.
