Random Thoughts For August 26

Hello Everyone:

It's hot. Not just hot but also humid. My hair has turned into a parched ball of frizz that no amount of product can tame. That's how miserable the weather is. Of course, my sinuses are thumping again. Lovely. Other than that, it's been a good day. I got what I needed to do, done sort of. The sort of part comes from a government job application I filled out and I'm not sure I submitted. The website I logged on to is for federal government jobs; so naturally I don't expect it work smoothly. The job is for a museum in New York and it sounds like something I can do. The pay would allow me to consider modestly live in the city.  I'm about three-quarters of the way done with a post on New Orleans, yen after Hurricane Katrina. The city seems to have revived itself with lessons for the future. I remember after the Hurricane blew over, some clergy people had the nerve to say that it was divine retribution. Right, tell that to someone who just had there whole life washed away in a flood and had to live in a government issued trailer, on assistance. That just angered me because it seemed like these clergy people were taking pleasure in someone else's misery. I wonder if any of them had a change of heart?  Naw, I doubt it. People like that don't change their opinions.

Anyway, changing the subject, the niece is leaving for school Saturday night. I'm really happy for her. I have every confidence in the world that she'll be fine. Mom is going to be a nervous wreck, the BIL and sis will probably be more calm about the whole thing.  I'm just glad the niece is getting out of the house for a while. My only real concern is the quality of her continuing education. The branch of the school she chose had had some academic and administrative issues that don't bode well. Personally, I think the school, like her high school, is beneath her. I think she's having her intellectual potential short circuited some one decided that girls should only so much education so that it doesn't detract from their true role as wives and mothers. Sexist isn't it. I look at it this way, if things don't work out she can always transfer to the main branch on the East Coast.
