Random musings for a Tuesday afternoon

Hello Everyone:

It's a lovely Tuesday afternoon here is Southern California.  Typical spring weather, one day cold and overcast, the next warm and sunny.  Passover passes over this evening and I, for one, am quite happy about it.  Things can get back to normal.  I will definitely not miss it.  Although, it's been rather quiet.  No one has really gotten on my case about not participating in the rituals.  I guess the family's figured that I'm a big girl and can make my own choices.  Either that or they finally got tired of inviting me and my not showing up.  I think I've made my feelings clear on the subject of getting together with family for holiday meals.  I realize that's usually best way to reconnect with everyone but I need something a little more than that.  I need something in between holiday get togethers.  Apparently,  everyone is too busy.  Well guess what, I'm not waiting around for you.  You know where to find me.  Just don't expect me to come running every time you dangle a meal invitation in my face.  Those invitations feel hollow because they're tossed out like candy to children.  There comes a point where you don't want to chase after the candy.  The bottom line is I don't feel like I'm getting what I want from my relationships with mom and sis.  I don't need to be the center of attention all the time but hey throw me a line once in awhile and not just a meal invitation.  So really holidays just feel empty.

In the meantime, I go about my business quietly.  I write and look for a job in Historic Preservation.  I was reading an article yesterday about hot jobs in Planning and the position of Urban Studies Scholar jumped out at me.  This sounded like something that would interest me.  Historic Preservation, Urban Planning and Design overlap each other so being in a position that would allow me to work this middle ground between preservation, planning, and design sounds appealing.  Perhaps the best setting for this would an academic one.  It also sounds like the best use of my professional interests and newly acquired academic skills.  Hmm, the last time that happened I ended up at USC studying Historic Preservation and receiving a master's degree.  Can lightening strike twice?  Maybe.  We'll see.  I need to do some more research.
