A good scene

Hello All:

Once again I'm coming to you from my local coffee establishment.  This time I'm not listening to Duran Duran, I'm listening to regge instead.  Sorry about Sunday but it seems that every time I listen to DD or, for that matter, any really great music I get this overwhelming urge to get and start dancing regardless of where I am.  Thus the overriding urge to practice extreme self-control. I suppose it could be worse.  Anyway, yesterday evening I returned to USC for a panel discussion on Los Angeles' urban landscape seen through the photographers of Southern California Edison Electric Company.  It was nice being back on familiar territory without feeling so stressed out.  The discussion was great and I met some very interesting people.  More important, I finally decided to come out a self-imposed hibernation following "thesis rehab."  What is "thesis rehab" you ask?  "Thesis rehab" is a state where you're not thinking or doing anything remotely connected to writing and researching a thesis or the field you operate in.  You try to reconnect with the outside world and get the rude shock that it's not all about you.  It was actually quite pleasant making idyll chit chat centered around a subject.  I enjoyed the company, it felt like I was in the company of peers: curators, writers, professors, et cetera.  Perhaps I was in the company of peers not trying to make myself fit into a group.  The whole scene just had a really good vibe to it.  I hope to continue these forays into cultural events likes the one yesterday evening.  Besides, who knows what may come of it.
