My Happy Place
Hello Everyone:
Today I took a break from the same old same old and went to a museum. It was the first time I had been in a museum since before the pandemic. I can't begin to tell you how good it felt to be back, wandering through the galleries, taking in the different exhibitions. The museum I went to is new and dedicated to the art and craft of the movies. It was a virtual cabinet of visual wonders. I found myself spending a little too much time watching the film. No regrets about that because some of them brought back good memories. I was in my happy place. During all the lockdown madness, I lost touch with the one thing that makes me very happy, art and, most important, the joy of wandering through a museum looking at great art. Sure Google Arts and Culture filled the gap but it's not the same as a face-to-face encounter with a work by someone you admire. Now that I think about it, I definitely want to commit to that community college teacher program more than ever. I know that teaching art history is an uphill battle but I want students to be able to look at art and feel something that no app can replace. I also want students to understand that they are looking at historic records that tell the story of a people at a moment in time. That, to me, is the important part because without that understanding, it's just something on a wall or on a screen. I do plan to return to that museum and check out others. As long as I have a mask and my vaccine card, I'm good to go.
