Skip The Small Talk

Hello Everyone:

Once again I am exhausted from a productive day. I got the weekly grocery shopping done and had another energetic session in the blogosphere. It was Wednesday which means Candidate Forum.  I had it in mind to continue talking about potential running mates but current event preempted that subject. In this case, the aftermath of Those Emails. A lot to say. At least one good thing about blogging, I can whatever I need to say uninterrupted. I had an interesting Facebook chat with a friend in Alexandria, Virginia today about being likeable. I basically agreed with him that making small talk is not something I do well. I also agreed that I don't like to dumb myself down of defer to men. That's not how I roll. I also hate being told "be nice" or "don't give your opinion."  The basic message is sit quietly and look pretty. Does all of that sound sexist or what?  Well this is what's the situation is on my end of the world. Smile, be quiet, look pretty. I end up sitting mute at when I go over to peoples' a houses for a meal. If I try to chime in, I get all kinds of strange looks. Ridiculous. What's a smart woman supposed to do in this day age?  So much for everyone being so "enlightened."  The chitchat thing isn't my preferred form of communication. Beyond the basics, what else does one say at social gatherings or at the dinner table?  Besides, I find most of the people I encounter in my daily quite dull. Thanks goodness there is you.
