Mom's BFF

Hello Everyone:

I decided to be nice to mom and help her get ready for company this evening. Instead of burrowing myself in the writer's room. I stayed home and took care of a few last minute things. I do that every now and then with no expectation of reward. Just me being nice for a change. One kink in all the plans,  mom's BFF invited herself over. I hate when people do that and an elderly woman should know better.  Nevertheless, we have enough food, cutlery, dishes, and glasses to accommodate everyone. Personally speaking, I just as soon pack the lot of them off to McDonalds and be done with it all. At least I can take comfort in the fact that mom will leave me alone for the next few days.  Right now, we're just waiting for the hoard to arrive. Fortunately, they won't stay all evening. The one big issue I have is that no one of them offers to stay and help clean up after the meal. It's just dine and dash. That's always been a thorn because it feels like they're being totally inconsiderate. It's like this, they come, drape themselves all over the furniture, eat and leave. Makes me feel like hired help. No one of says "Do you need help with the dishes?"  I really wish they wouldn't come over at all but in all fairness, we do go over there and they family so I guess evey once in an odd while we have to invite them over. I just annoyed that mom's BFF invited herself over. This woman lives a kind of charmed retirement. No worries whatsoever, her children are in a position to take care of dear old mom. That's great that they can do take care of their mom. My mom, on the other hand, is envious of that situation. I can sort of understand it because dad was never terribly responsible because his drinking. Yet I don't envy anyone, regardless of age, who's led that kind of life. Mom's BFF is from South Africa and lived there during the apartheid period. She and her family had a household staff to do their bidding.  That is such a strange thing for me to grasp, living without learning the most basic of life skills. That's just me. Anyway, company is due to arrive shortly. More tomorrow.
