Less Freaked Out

Hello Everyone:

I'm feeling less freaked out about describing my look today thanks to the magic of the internet.  Nothing like cruising my favorite cosmetic company websites to check out what's what in comfort of a nicely appointed armchair to reassure myself that I know what works for me and what does not.  I supposed if I were to hazard a guess and describe my look, the word I would is "happy." As in I'm happy with myself.  I am happy with understated glamorous look I managed to cobble together.  Quite simply put, I prefer to enhance what's there, hide what shouldn't be there, and downplay the rest.  I never could understand why people feel they need to affect a "look."  What's wrong with presenting an authentic version of yourself?  My thougts in cosmetics is that they're good for gilding the lily.  No one has to wear make up but if you do, then just enhance what's there.  Hiding under layers of caked on crap just makes things worse.  Even worse than looking like a parody of yourself, is looking like some cheap prostitute by affecting some "look" that you saw in a magazine.  Same goes for hair and wardrobe.  Wear the look that pleases you.  My general rule for choosing make up is if it makes me smile, then I know it'll work.  Once in a while I like to through something different into the mix but beyond that, I don't like to mess around too much.  I don't like to overthink something frivolous like what shade of lipstick to wear.  I'd rather overthink matters with more substance like work.  Perhaps if I worked in fashion, then I'd pay more attention to the frivolous matters.  Since I don't, I can happily turn my attention to more important matters.
