Hello Everyone:
Still feeling sad over the loss of a rock icon Lou Reed. In fact, right now I'm listening to him on spotify. The more I listen to the music, the more I realize how much I can relate to that undercurrent of not fitting into whatever the perceived norms of society are. It's tough to be the only one who has a different outlook on life and thinks that the so-called "norms" of society has full of s@#t. It's not punk or anything like that, it's just there are those of us out there who march to their own beat. We need to be true to our own selves. This is something I've tried to live by. When I try to follow whatever social standards imposed upon me, it feels false. Lou Reed spoke to those of us who get labeled as misfits, nonconformists. Lou Reed also held up a mirror to contemporary society. That mirror didn't reflect a pretty picture. That picture was often an image of decay and deception. Not that Lou fantasized about a utopian society where peace and love reign supreme. He wasn't like that. Lou understood that modern life was not rainbows and unicorns, it is what it is. In other words, modern life was not slick and glamourous. Beneath the surface were layers decay and desperation. The public figures were nothing more than cardboard cutouts of people who talked out of both sides of their mouths. The consumer of pop culture has an insatiable appetite for sex and violence. This is life, real life not what we see in the media.
