No Rude Children
Hello Everyone:
Well, the class was better today because it's Tuesday. I did have to speak to the lead teacher about a couple of boys, the "problem children," who are being rude to me. To be fair, most of the boys are great. They understand that I'm there for a reason and, despite the occasional cheekiness, are sweet. Then there are the two "problem children" whose behavior issues go beyond the class. That's where the rudeness comes in. My concern is that it'll rub off on the other boys and undermine my authority in the class. I don't expect total obediance but, if I politely ask a student to do something, then I expect it to get done. I don't appreciate being told be quiet or transfer to another class by a student. I'm not trying to be their mums, sisters, aunts, or friends just an adult with a job to do. Thus when I ask a problem child to not sit in or on the cubbies, that's what I want done. Also, I don't appreciate being flat out ignored by them. Fortunately I have the support of the lead teacher who, along with the two other adult males in the room, treat me as equal. I do what I can to build a rapport with the boys but I have limits. If the problem children think they can push my all buttons and get me to snap, they're sadly mistaken. I won't engage with them, not worth it. Hopefully the behavior issues will get work out so that the class can be a more pleasant place, not a daily exercise in frustration.
