Entitled To It
Hello Everyone:
I loved going grocery shopping today because I didn't have to rush through it. I actually got everything on my list. I am definitely looking for a job that offers a nice work-life balance so I don't have to rush through the grocery shopping or anything else. That's another thing that appealing about teaching at a community college. I like having some time to enjoy life. In the meantime, I still need something to do that pays me. I was thinking about the nature of work today and what a farce it's become. What spurred this was something I saw on LinkedIn. Paraphrasing: It not an entry-level position when you require 3-5 years experience. You can't advertise for a position that requires 10 years experience and pay an entry-level salary. That's so totally true. Employers are complaining they can't find people to work and potential employees are refusing to work because the pandemic made eveyone realize that the old way of employment isn't cutting it anymore. Potential employees want a livable wage, benefits, and opportunities for advancement. It's not a lot to ask for but employers just don't that fact. Requiring experience for an entry-level job is ridiiculous. How is a person with no experience supposed to get experience when no one will hire them. It doesn't make any sense but that's what it is. Asking an experienced person to work for entry-level salary is an insult. The problem, at least partially, is the employer. I want to work but I also want opportunities for advancement and a livable salary. I have a right to those things. They're not benefits or perks of the job. A good salary, a secure job,and benefits are what I'm entitled to. Anything less is unacceptable.
