Hello Everyone:
It's very warm Wednesday in Los Angeles and I'm hiding out in my usual place, the business center at Park La Brea. It's a rather pleasant, quiet place where I can work and think without too many distractions. If need to print or fax (anyone still do that?) something, I have access to the devices I need. More importantly, it's become a refuge of sorts from the afternoon comings and goings of my house. Usually, the little nephew is hangs out in the afternoon following camp. Usually he sits and reads or watches a DVD. Where it gets too much is mom's interactions with him. She's constantly serving him whatever he desires and I end up cleaning the mess. The other thing, the one of many, she does that really annoys me is every time she passes my door she feels the need to stick her head and say something. I could be working with my ear buds in place or watching something on Netflix and she'll still do it. So I go somewhere else. I like the fact that I can spend time and just be alone with my thoughts. The library and coffee places are all well and fine but can be a bit too distracting. Anyway, I've also gotten to know some of the other Business Center dwellers and they're quite nice. We're all respectful of each other and look out for each other's possessions. I like the camaraderie. All of us working on different things, sometimes sharing ideas or stories. We sometimes joke that it's like being in study hall. In effect, that what it is at times. At least there isn't some really strict school marm-type constantly shushing everyone. We are all adults so we understand when someone's head is down facing the computer or whatever else to be quiet. It's much more preferable than hanging out at home and enduring the constant distractions.
