Out During The Day

Hello Everyone: Regardless of work status, today was a day off. I did indulge a little by sleeping in until 7:00am and lingering over coffee. Otherwise it was a just a day, like any other. I did get a couple of productive things done: Applied to a couple of jobs, ran an errand to one of the local drugstores and cruise the local mall. The first two were the constructive things on my to-do list and the mall cruise was a way to remember what it was like to be out in the world during the day. Mostly it was a way for me to stretch my legs and get some air. After over a year of going into stores with a mask on, it was a whole new-ish experience going into stores without covering my face. I still had a mask with me in case someone asked me to cover my face but no did. I forgot what a joy it was to smell things and see people close to each other, enjoying the afternoon sunshine. This is what happens when you self-isolate, then work afternoons into evenings. I don't think I'm that much of a recluse, it's just the situation I find myself in at the moment. I was thinking to myself that it wouldn't surprise me if I got an email at the end the end of the month, beginning of August, from the HR company about coming back to work. I already verbally committed myself, if I didn't have anything else going on. I think that prediction may come true because the local school district I was attached to is planning to start the fall term in mid-August, with in-person instruction. This means they will need people to contact trace and do exposure management. The way I see it play out is: An email blast'll go out in a few weeks asking all the laid off people if they're willing to comeback. If the answer is yes, reply with what the last assignment and shift they worked. Based on the number of yes responses, the HR firm will re-staff the project and decide with the school district if they need to add more. I could be wrong but it wouldn't be a surprise. Even if I go back, I still plan to look for more secure work. In fact, I just got an email about openings for instructional assistants with the local school district in math and the computer lab. The computer lab opening doesn't look like I would need a lot of knowledge on the subject, just enough to convey the teacher's instructions. I'll have to read them over more carefully to see if this is something I can feel confident about. Anyway, tomorrow it's back to the usual.
