First Day Frustration
Hello Everyone:
Today was supposed to be my first day of training and orientation for the new job and it was an exercise in frustration. First, I was supposed to receive an email yesterday with the Zoom link. It didn't arrive until around midnight and didn't see it until this morning, so I couldn't plan and prepare. When I finally did log onto the Zoom room, there were technical difficulties on the trainer's end. I ended up talking to my contact person at the HR company and explaining to her that I need the important administrative information--i.e. who my supervisor is, setting a schedule, and time reporting--more than information about the virus. That I do on my own and it's easier for me to read over the .pdfs at my own pace. She seemed to understand my issues and work with me. I'm sure I'll have to join a Zoom meeting at some point but honestly, I'd just rather get to work. Speaking of which, I got my work laptop today. It's a nice device that came with a power cord and headphones. I should plug it in tonight so I can charge it up in the morning. I finally ordered broadband service for the house. Someone is supposed to come and install it on Friday but I may end up cancelling it if this whole thing with orientation doesn't get straighted out soon. I would hate to use the nuclear option--quit--but this was the first place to say yes and I'm already committed to it. The nuclear option is the last resort. I want give this job a good effort. It's a temp job so I don't expect it to be the career. What I do expect is just to work.
