What A Weekend

Hello Everyone:

What a weekend.  It started off so nicely, I got everything I needed to do done with ample time to myself.  I even picked up a nice new bottle of nail polish and enjoyed a slice of a very delicious homemade cheesecake.  The very best part came on Sunday when Sis came by with the BIL.  What a grand surprise.  He was in the hospital for two months because of COVID-19 and was finally discharged last Tuesday.  He still has to do therapy and work from home but he doesn't look too worse for wear.  Sounds like I had a nice weekend, right?  Well normally, yes, if it wasn't for the riot outside my window.  I live near one of the places that held a protest rally on Saturday.  That day started off well with music and speeches followed by a march.  Before long things went completely sideways.  People, with no connection to or interest in the cause, used the opportunity to start causing mayhem.  They began looting and tagging places which forced the police to deploy tactical units.  This turned my neighborhood into something straight out of the movie Apocalypse Now complete with tear gas explosions and rubber bullet fire.  No joke.  My biggest fear is that these troublemakers would start rampaging through my apartment complex and get into the buildings.  At one point I started thinking how am I and the chatty carer going to evacuate mum in wheelchair and oxygen unit?  Fortunately, the worst case scenario never came to pass and by nightfall all the chaos died down.  Right now there is a curfew in place so the streets are more eerily quiet than usual.  I went running in the park the next day and saw evidence of what took place the day before.  I posted the pictures on my social media pages.  It was bad enough that I couldn't listen to my one of my favorite podcasts' coverage of the riot.  I'll catch up to it when I'm ready.  Right now, I need to eat.
