Holiday Lunch

Hello Everyone:

All is calm.  All is quiet.  Mom is staying at Sis's for the first two days of the holiday which means I can relax.  It was rather nice yesterday evening and this morning sitting and actually enjoying my meal in peace and quiet without listening to her incessant chatter or the phone ringing.  I just put on some French music to start my day, better.  Later, I'm going to someone's house for a holiday lunch.  I have no idea what to expect, all I know is that I can't dress like Lady Gaga and I won't be around people I can't stand. The host is someone I know from the park where I workout.  She's a nice person and I was surprised that she invited.  I say surprised because the woman and her family are religious and I didn't think they were the type that would mix with non-religious people.  I guess I shouldn't presume, should I?  I'm just happy that I won't have to sit through some boring meal with Their Imperial Majesties, the in-laws, mom, or anyone named Cooper.  Even worse are their friends with small unruly children.  I just hate going to someone's house or to nice restaurant and have to sufffer through screaming children and their parents who cannot or will not put them on a leash, metaphorically.  Of course, G-d forbid I should say anything to the parents because then I risk coming off as a child hater.  I don't hate children, I just don't like parents who insist on inflicting their unruly children on other people.  I get sometimes there's no choice.  Then, perhaps, the parents should alter their plans so they accommodate their children. When it comes to bringing them over to other people's houses, my suggestion is that if you cannot impart some basic etiquette lessons, don't bring them.  It's not fair to everyone, including the parents, who want to enjoy the meal and the company and not have interrupted by a tantrum throwing brat.  I think the worst I've ever seen was one year, Sis invited over this one family who were quite rude.  The husband/dad didn't speak with anyone else except my BIL and the family got up during the meal to go play a game in the living room.  Hopefully, today will be a better experience.
