The Dollar Store

Hello Everyone: It was a cool and blustery day but, best of all, I have heat in my apartment. Thank goodness. I really think the heating system in this building is from 18th century, which is pretty amazing considering the building is about 70-something years old. At least I'm not sitting with a warm jacket on. The windy weather didn't stop me from going to the dollar store to pick up a few things. I figured out a strategy for getting my shopping done there without too much stress and spending too much money. I go when it's not busy and take a specific list. The dollar store is like those wholesale stores where you go in and leave $200 lighter in the wallet. Without a strategy, you can easily end up buying way more than you need. It's not like the dollar store company discourages mindless consumerism. They figure that the rock bottom prices will entice customers to buy in bulk. Somethings are worth stocking up on, like toilet paper. Other stuff isn't worth the effort. I saw one dude load up on paper towels and tissues today. My first thought was "save some for the rest of us" then I thought he's probably buying for a business. Just the same, leave some for the rest of us. It was pretty brutal during Lockdown 1.0 when there was very little toilet paper to be had. It got to a point where I was like "how much toilet paper does a person really need to wipe their tush." Another source of temptation at the dollar store are the snacks. They've gotten better with the selection and it all looks so good. Sometimes I'll get some cookies but really not much else. The grocery store I like to shop at has better snacks. Whatever the case, no one will ever accuse me of getting too nutty at the dollar store. I leave that to the Brit BF.
