What Comes After The Break

Hello Everyone: I have been released from the family holiday lunches. Sis texted me to remind/inform me that she, the BIL, the oldest niece and her family are going to other people's homes tomorrow and Wednesday. Yay. I really wasn't looking forward to getting dressed up and going over there again. It was nice and everything but very draining, especially last Tuesday because it was hot. I anyway wasn't planning to go over there on Wednesday. My plan is to get some things done around the house before I sit down to blog. I still plan to go over to Sis's house on Saturday,as usual. What do I have planned for the remaining days of my fall break? Not much. My plan is to use the time to get ahead of some household chores so they don't pile up as well as keep an eye out for any great job opportunities. Now that I have a job, somewhere I like, I don't have to be so manic about the job search. I still have to look because you never know when the things could change. My hope for after the break is to meet with the director of education, the first person I contacted at the school, and discuss moving into a role that gets me in front of a class as some sort of a para-professional. I'd love to start in the fourth grade because I have experience with that age group and they're studying California history this year. Cool. I already found resources in my usual historic preservation sites. I have to tamp down the ambition around the other TAs because they're mostly little girls who are working for spending money or, in one case, some sour faced middle aged woman who would rather be leading a leisurely life instead of chasing after seven-year-old boys. Ambition is sort of a bad thing around some of my co-workers. They see it as synonmous with all sorts of negative things like gossip, toe stepping, and back stabbing. It can be all of those but I prefer to think about it as being goal oriented. Having a goal is a good thing. It's what motivates me to get up in the morning, get dressed, and go to work. Chasing after young children is all well and fine--the boys are very adorable--but I have most of the qualifications to be the teacher. The only things missing are the training and credentials. I'm willing to take the state teaching license exam and do the work necessary to achieve my goal. I decided that I'd rather stay in the private schools instead of work in the public schools. Too much bureaucracy for my taste. I think the school I'm currently employed would provide a good place to start as well as good platform to introduce historic preservation as part of the social studies/history lesson. What could not be more interesting than to show a class the real places where the events the students are learing about took place. Anyway, that's my plan and whether I implement it at my current job or elsewhere remains to be seen.
