I just had a strange call from a finance company. Fortunately, it wasn't about me. Rather, it was regarding the mother of the abusive ex. It seems that she passed away sometime ago and this company is looking for a relative authorized to handle financial matters on her behalf. Needless to say I was surprised to hear about her passing and told the representative that was no longer connected to the family. The was representative was quite polite about the whole thing, explaining that when they do a relative search they get turn up exes, and said she would remove my number from the call list. I shared this information with mom, who was also surprised by he news. Mind you, I haven't seen the ex in almost ten years or spoken to him longer than that. Historically, the CPA husband of his cousin dealt with the ex's parents financial matters, which makes me wonder where is he. M guess is that the ex is typically somewhere in the ether, either not picking up his phone or finally making good on his perpetual threat to leave town. Not that he would be missed by anyone. He's probably trying to avoid all his angry tax and bookkeeping clients. Frankly, I wouldn't trust him with milk money for school, let alone his parents estate. This leads to another question, why didn't his mum get her affairs organized before she passed away? Was her death sudden or did she think that either her miscreant son or CPA relative would take of things? Regardless, this is something for someone else to deal with. I neither have nor want any part of the matter nor do I care what happens.
