Creating An Opening
Hello Everyone:
Yesterday's ring drama has been resolved without a trip to the jewelrers but the tax document saga goes on. I'm confident that I'll get thatit quickly resolved to my satisfaction. Meanwhile grocery shopping continues to be an adventure in finding reasonably priced items. Ugh, I've had enough of this nonsense. The job search continues to be a slow grind at the moment. I'm really hoping something breaks through very soon. One good thing I did today, job wise, was connect with someone who co-hosts a preservation podcast. I sent her a message about a week ago, offering my services as a blogger and she replied saying she was interested. I went on to suggest that I work with the producer of the show, a journalism professor, who could help me improve my skills and teach me some new ones. The podcast is a university-based program and the hosts are two people I sort of know. It's not a well known show, yet, but it has potential. The show features the hosts, interviewing newly graduated students about their thesis work. Some of the subjects are interesting, others not so much. I suppose it's a subjective opinion. What would I do? Right now, whatever I'm asked to do. Eventually I see creating an online journal dedicated to all things heritage conservation and preservation. Of course that takes time and money; one, the other, or both may not be in large supply. I think that part of the problem is the image the profession has. The perception of a perservationists is either a blue haired, tea sipping, old lady in a big hat; or some wild eyed radical that chains themselves to buildings; or a bunch of narcistic, power hungry busy bodies. None of that is true. Another myth about preservation is all they want to do is seize people's homes and turn them into museums. Also not true. I think that having something more than a podcast about student work would get listeners more interested in the subject. Anyway, that's my thoughts on how to make it better. I'm more interested in improving my writing and social media skills while getting some work experience. Where am I going with all this? I haven't a clue.
