Hello Everyone:
I'm just enjoying these quiet moments before the inevitable phone call from mom. It's been a quiet weekend. Quiet and somber because another rock star passed away. Prince's untimely death on Thursday put a damper on the weekend. It seems to be the year for rock stars dying prematurely or from disease. January was the month for dying rock stars. Prince was one of my favorites. I love his blend of rock, jazz, and funk to make some of the most infectious melodies. Just spoke with mom. Called a little earlier than I expected. Anyway, as I was saying, Prince was an incredible musician. I was watching a YouTube video from 2004, a tribute to George Harrison. The clip featured Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, and Prince playing one of the very GH songs, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Toward the end of the song Eric Clapton (originally featured on the song) lets loose on this killer guitar solo. Up until Thursday, the only other person I've that could match EC was Joe Walsh on a Grammy salute to the Beatles two years ago. About ten years before that, Prince blistered that solo. Guitar hero on par with Jimi Hendrix. He was an amazing person who will truly be missed. I was listening to a Prince playlist last night and dancing along. He was great.
