Hello Everyone:
A pretty mellow Wednesday evening for me. I tossed off a short blog post today on civic engagement, or lack of, in Los Angeles. I wasn't much in the mood for some long drawn out piece and I got a little hung up sending out a CV for a writer job in Santa Monica. I used LinkedIn to apply for that job but the connection was a little slow. I prevailed nonetheless. So now I'm thinking how long is it going to take for inevitable rejection letter. The "thanks for interest but we've decided to interview other candidates for the position" letter. I could be wrong and they send me an email saying "we'd like to meet you." That would be nice. By the time I got to writing a post I wasn't in the mood anymore for longer piece so I chose something shorter. It was all good and I had time to go pick up a copy of one of my favorite fashion magazines. I like reading the fashion in part to see what's going and in part to get inspired. Sometimes there's a good cultural article or profile. Thank goodness the magazines to go on ad nauseum with the crap the post on their social media pages. Which reminds me, the big "celebrity" news of the day is Caitlyn Jenner receiving an award for being an inspiration. Now before you all hate me, let me make something clear, I firmly believe that everyone should be their authentic self. I don't have a problem with transgendered people. In fact, I applaud their courage to be their true selves despite massive hostility and rejection. The problem I have in this case, is most transgendered people do not have the benefit of having a team of doctors, therapists, handlers, or a glam squad at their disposal. More often then not, the typical transgendered person must go at it alone without the dawning crowd. While some may see Caitlyn Jenner as a role model, I see her as an atypical example. She had the luxury of whoever was necessary to ease the transition, most do not. If you're going applaud anyone, applaud the transgendered person who made the transition despite the negativity because that is who they genuinely are. That's my say.
