The date

Today is kind of a bit of chill day. I got some housework and laundry done which is always good. In a little while, I'm going for dinner with a male friend of mine. Don't be surprised. I do date on occasion. The problem is that some of the prospects are just not that appealing and I actually find the whole dating process so tiresome. First, let me tell you about the guy. He's someone I met several years ago and a nice enough person. Loves his mom and dad, fairly stable, descent sort. He's someone I can talk to about anything. The problem is that he's not serious enough. By that I mean, we haven't moved forward on our relationship. Why you ask. Well, we're unemployed and his parents have health issues that are serious enough to keep him from doing much else. Not that I want to come between him and his family, it's just that I need more than a hit and run relationship This leads into my extreme distaste for dating. I find the whole process of meeting and going out to be akin to prostitution. I know it sounds really harsh but think of it, like a prostitute, I get all dressed up, do and say whatever I have to get the guy to take me home or at least buy me dinner. Really, in my opinion, they're the flip sides of the same coin. Even worse are these single mixers which all you do is stand around sip luke warm cocktails and try to look interested. I guess I prefer something a little less manipulative. Something between a hit and run relationship and a staged event. Maybe a casual relationship is the best way to go. You know, hang out with friends and see what develops. Nothing designed with the explicit intention of getting people to meet, date, get married. I'm a firm believer in relationships developing naturally. Not trying to force the issue. I was in a relationship like for too long. I was really young and stupid. I should've seen the signs and cut the guy loose a lot earlier. It's not that I have unreal expectations of what the person should be but if you're going to be in a serious relationship with someone you need to be honest about. If you're just interested in a good time then find someone else. Don't make things complicated. Anyway that's my take on dating and relationships.
