In Pursuit
Hello Everyone:
Well I did it. I submitted my first application for an adjunct professorship at a community college. That's kind of a big thing for me because teaching in a college or university. I know my chances aren't that great but that didn't stop me from clicking submit. Besides, you never know what could happen. Speaking of community colleges, I rsvp'd a Zoom information session about community college certificate program this weekend. I'll listen to what the facilitators have to say and then make up my mind. I also have another Zoom call a week from Thursday for a teaching internship program. I sort of have my mind made up to commit to the program but I just need more information, specifically placement in an internship program. I don't want to get stuck with a piece of paper and no internship. That internship is important because it'll let me build on what I've learn in theory and practice. This was the problem in grad school; I couldn't get an internship because I had no experience. Even writing that sounds weird because the point of an internship is to get experience, right. How do you call something an internship if you need at least a year of actual experience? The other thing that concerns me is that the community college teaching internship program seem to prefer people with Ph.Ds or Ph.Ds in progress in STEM majors. I have a masters degree in historic preservation. Again, I'm not letting it stop me from fully pursuing this career path. Other job front news, an online tutoring company sent me a link to a ten question test they'd like me to take before they hire me. I can do that. The job is for an essay and humanities tutor. I think I can manage that. Even though it's part time, it would be money coming in. Things are starting to pop and I have a feeling that life will start to get better.
