No Pat On The Back

Hello Everyone:

A very wet Monday for me.  Well it is winter and one can't always expect warm sunny temperatures, even in Southern California.  It was really good getting out of bed early this morning to workout.  I felt like more energized.  I ended up climbing the stairs because of the wet weather and may have to do it again tomorrow morning, if the forecast for more rain is correct.  I also ended up working at home because of the rain.  That wasn't too bad.  Mum left me alone and I just did my thing.  Again, something I may have to do tomorrow because of the weather and a scheduled event.  The upside is I don't have to deal with the after school crowd, running around the big room because they can't go out and play.  Perish the thought that the poor little dearies should stomp and sit in mud puddles.  I actually blew off the Golden Globe awards yesterday.  Not really interested in them but I did catch up this morning.  The thing about these award shows is that they end up being so self serving-Hollywood patting itself on the back for supposedly being good all year.  Over the last few years, award shows have really annoyed me because they've tried to get more progressive.  Don't get me wrong, I'm tired of seeing movies about affluent white people's problems.  I liked Moonlight and 12 Years A Slave. Was thoroughly engrossed by Spotlight and I'm looking forward to seeing all the nominated films this year.  What bothers me the most is how when Hollywood tries to be more progressive, they end up sounding like what they are: a bunch of over entitled, self absorbed people telling the rest of what do and think. I get that some actors feel that they have a responsibility to use their celebrity to advocate for a cause.  Some do it in more low-key manner than others.  It's interesting that this year's cause is sexual harassment and assault.  Of course the press are all over it like it's something new.  No it isn't.  Wearing a black dress or tuxedo to protest sexual harassment is all well and fine but what happens after the last of the trophies is handed out?  Does everyone go back to their insulated world and let the matter die, accomplishing nothing until next year?  Probably.  For me, it's not enough "to start the conversation."  It was started years ago.  Now it's time for action.  Prosecute sexual assault perpetrators, sue sexual harassers, expel them from their guilds, support their victims. Just don't expect the rest of to pat you on the back for being woke.
