Ramblings 12-30-13

Hello Everyone:

It's almost the end of a Monday, the day before New Year's Eve.  Once again, I spent time wading my way through a job application.  This application is for a news writer position at a my grad school alma mater.  Oddly, I don't have any qualms about going back there for work purposes.  I had a wonderful, yet exhausting time there.  I met a lot of great people and most important, got a great education.  I feel like I should give back in some way.  If I can't donate to a scholarship fund then, at least, I can use my skills as a writer and content editor to spread the good word.  I don't think I've ever enjoyed an educational experience more than I did in the two years and half years I spent there.  What made the experience so great was a faculty that encouraged my research and gave me the tools to do it.  I had whatever resources I needed.  My studio-mates were fantastic people.  In short, I really felt terribly spoiled.  Coming from small schools, it was like being in another universe.  I soon got acclimated.  So spending a few extra minutes today filling out a job application for a news writer position wasn't such a great chore.  It was a chore having to fill out all the usual information: personal, education, job history, resume and references.  It's the least I can do.  So we'll see.  At least it's not a government position, where they want to know every last detail about you-did you hear that NSA?

In other news, the teenage nephew got his cast cut down to half-leg.  He has to wear it for another few weeks and may not require physical therapy.  I hope he's learned his lesson but I doubt it. The bf is at wit's end with work and moving.  Poor guy.  I really feel for him.  I just can't wait to him and do all kinds of things to him.  I hope that next year will be better for him, me, and everyone else.  Mom is mom.  She's been complaining lately about her bff.  Mom's bff is another old lady who lives in the building across the street from us.  Mom's bff is a pretty cool granny who leads an active life.  What gets mom all the time is the daily phone calls from the bff to see if Mom wants to join her on daily adventures.  Mom has even taken to avoiding her calls.  It's actually quite funny to watch.  See, mom is the type of person who is pretty set in her ways.  Spending the day running errands, every day, isn't exactly something she like to do.  However, Mom's bff is just the opposite.  I sometimes encourage mom to go and she goes.  Most of the time she tries to avoid the calls or comes up with excuses not to get together with her bff.  Whatever.

Happy New Year and we'll talk more tomorrow
