Hello Everyone:
I'm feeling less stress than I was yesterday. I think once I got rid of the nagging earring problem, everything moved more smoothly. Yesterday I finally finished and mailed out the application to the school I told you about on Sunday. I think some of my responses should get the human resources person's attention. I was honest about myself and I hope that was evident in the way I answered. Being authentic about myself and my abilities in the workplace is very important to me. I don't like or feel comfortable about misrepresenting myself in any way shape or form. Too often, supervisors and potential employers expect an employee to back up what they put in their resumes and applications. It doesn't bode well if you embellish or outright lie. Fortunately, I've never had to resort to that kind of nonsense in order to get a job. Further, I don't feel comfortable applying for work that is clearly beyond my skill and educational level. It has nothing to do with stepping out of one's comfort zone and taking risks. It has more to do with being honest about who you are and what you can do. For example, if you put on your resume that you're literate in certain computer programs, employers expect that. I know what I'm saying is plain common sense but you'd be surprised how many will say and do anything just to get a job, especially in tough economic times. Why am I carrying on about this? It's an ethical thing for me. I don't like to misrepresent myself, skills, and education in any way. I don't like it when someone encourages me to do it. No good comes from it. I'm not that desperate for work, that i would resort to dishonesty. Regarding, this potential source of employment, I feel that I need to be honest about my religious beliefs. This is integral to the position because I'll be in front of students of have little or no formal religious training. I've found in previous elementary teaching experiences, that children are not stupid. They have an inner BS detector. If you hand them bunch of misinformation, they'll call on it, especially if they have internet access. I also want the administration to understand that this is who I am and what I believe. I'm not going just say things for the sake of getting hired. Getting hired has to be based on my merits.
