Job Application Head Scratcher.

Hello Everyone:

We're chatting on another Sunday summer.  The weather could not be better.  I went out for my morning cross training and felt a little more revived.  I need to fill out a job application today for a part time teaching position at a very unique Hebrew School.  The school has several locations around town and doesn't charge tuition.  The really unique thing is that they make liberal use of iPads.  The school hands them out to teacher and students.  Well, since I make liberal use of the device, I think I fulfill that qualification.  The only thing about the application is the essay questions.  One in particular is bothering me, "What is your favorite Jewish holiday?"  I can't very well say "none."  I have to be honest with my responses.  I'm not going to lie or misrepresent myself.  I suppose if I had to pick a "favorite" Jewish holiday, it would be Yom Kippur.  It sounds really strange because it's a fast day where, essentially, you're in synagogue all day praying.  The day is also called "The Day of Antonment" because you're to face your higher power, own up to your words and deeds over the past year.  It not so much about about begging for forgiveness and primising never to do the action again.  It's about telling The Man in White I'm recommitting myself to striving to be a better person.  Truthfully, I could do without all the prayer and ritual but it's part of the package.  I suppose if I had to come up with my own ritual for the day it would meditation.  I understand that some people go out into nature for this express purpose.  I've never really connected with the breast beating and fasting part.  What I have connected with is the rededication of oneself to self-improvement.  I think I just answered that question.  Now I can ask mom about the technical questions.
