Why I write

So far I'm having a really good week. It's not like I'm doing anything unusual to make it a good week but it just seems that way. Maybe it's because I've made a conscious decision to sit down and write something every day in this blog. I find it helpful to do that because it gives the space to say and feel whatever I need to say and feel without judgement. Often, I feel like I can't do this verbally because I either can't come up with the right words or I feel like I'm not getting through. So I write. When I write, I say whatever, sometimes in the heat of the moment. When I do this, the strong emotion loses its punch and I can process things more clearly. Also, I feel that I can articulate myself better when I write. The words and syllables flow more freely without any inhibitions. Communicating orally also feels forced. I always feel that I have to parse everything, make sure I don't offend someone, or lose control. Also, I loath making polite chit chat. Since I can't hide out in front of the computer all the time, when I do speak, I like to keep things to a minimal. Just whatever I need to say and move on. All right sometimes my mouth runs ahead of my brain but I think we're all guilty of doing that at times. When I write, I don't worry about my mouth moving faster than sound. I just put words on the screen. Sometimes I do get feedback when I post on the social media sites. That's good because we can have a conversation. This usually happens when I post about political trends such as the need for a more comprehensive gun control law in the United States. Other times, the conservation centers around something trivial like a friend of mine from Chicago, Illinois complaining about the cold weather in Los Angeles. That sparked a rather hilarious rash of comments including mine which basically told to put on his big boy pants and man up. So why do I write? I do it to express myself and hopefully get some clarity.
