A good start to the day
My day has been off to a good start. This is nice switch from the doom and gloom of the past few days. I didn't do anything in particular that is making this day so good. I woke at the usual time, went for a nice run, had a delicious breakfast, checked my email, got dressed. Nothing out of the ordinary, well except for one thing, one of my favorite band posted a song on their website that I absolutely love. It's my all-time favorite cover version of a classic seventies song that just rocks. The cherry on top. I have this song on my spotify playlist and I love listening to it. I'll cue it up later and blast it through the house. Also, I applied for another position at a private firm in Chicago and set up job alerts for openings in London, England. I'm trying to stay optimistic but it's often hard in this job market. It may sound like I'm playing geographic (moving around in hopes that the problems will disappear) but it's not. My interest in taking a position out of state is motivated by a real need to work. Problems and bad relationships are always going to be a presence. Sometimes, moving to a new location generates new challenges however, work is work whether it's in Los Angeles or elsewhere. At least I'm doing something not wringing my hands all the time, mostly.
I think part of the reason for my good mood is my commitment to write something everyday. Writing is a discipline that requires due diligence. Whether it's this blog or another I write on Preservation of Community Assets, writing daily demands real rigor. I like the discipline of having to sit down and journal everyday. It keeps me from getting into real trouble and out of the malls. Also, it keeps my critical and analytical skills sharp. The other blog I keep is more of a research journal. I don't what I'm going to do with it yet. I'm hoping that I'll be able to start putting all together in a coherent fashion and publish it. Maybe that's the next step with my PCA blog, take what I have already and start pulling threads from it. In the meantime, I just sit and write.
