A Few Thoughts On Passover

Hello Everyone:

Sunday evening and time for a few quick thoughts. Passover is coming up quickly and mum’s in psycho mode. I think she’s less psycho than last year because she’s not 100 percent. The good news is  I found anti-marathon an Seder ally. The bigger reason I stopped going to the annual family gathering was the length. The biggest problem is they never start on time, everyone feels compelled to interrupt  with some “clever” comment, it’s nearly midnight by the time we eat, and don’t finish until 2am. Another problem are parents who bring their babies and small children. The babies fall asleep or start to fuss and the children can’t sit for too long. This causes a disruption in the proceedings and more delays. It turns out my eldest nephew doesn’t like the marathons either and is in favor of finishing everything by midnight. I’m good with that.  Shortening the Seder is probably not going happen because my idiot sister insists on doing the whole thing and somehow tolerated the disruptions. Mum can’t stand parents with babies and small children. I can’t stand any of it. What would work for me is starting as close to on time as possible, limiting the speakers to a pre-selected group during the meal, each with three minutes to say something. Parents with small children and babies should not inflict tu their offspring on others. If they can’t sit quietly or be in their pram, then don’t bring them. Also, guests should make a point to be on time—15 minutes early. Mum told me that last year, one couple with small children kept everyone waiting for an hour for some reason. How rude. Anyway, unless something radically changes, I’m blowing off the holidays again.
