Hello Everyone:
The weather is slowly getting more tolerable. I actually felt comfortable enough to turn off the fan in my room. Mum is still complaining that the air conditioner isn't powerful enough. Oh well. I think it's strong enough. I had a slightly interesting development yesterday. Someone I know from San Jose is finally sitting down to write her thesis after being away for a while. Her subject is a familiar Bay Area landmark, known for being the place for chocolate. This person contacted me to pick my brain about writing her historic preservation thesis. It's nice that she knew to get in touch with me and I offered to help her out. The school she doing her masters doesn't have a dedicated historic preservation program like USC does. USC is basically the only west coast university with a dedicated degree program in preservation. I remember having a brief conversation with the program head about a conservation program. I told her that it would be a perfect degree program for the school because it fits within the mission the school. She agreed with me. The problem is money. It's a state university and dependent on whatever funds it can get from tuition and fees, as well as a few pennies from the state. I remember looking at different in-state programs before I found USC. Most of the programs were certificates or architectural history programs. I'm glad I chose the school I did. I don't think this'll lead anywhere in terms of a career. I think I'll just make myself available to her and leave it at that. That's what being a helpful person is about.
