Safe Than Sorry

Hello Everyone:

A very mellow Tuesday for me.  For a change, mum wasn't being a pain in the behind, more of a pain in the behind than usual.  I still think she over dramatizes her illness just to get attention but I don't have to play along with the theatrics.  Frankly I'm really tired of the daily drama and I'm glad she's going to be someone else's problem starting next week.  At least I can catch a break.  I know I said that the last time mum had someone come to the house to help her out and it turned out to be a big waste of time.  I sincerely hope this new person works out because I'm so tired from doing practically everything.  A lot also depends on mum's willingness to work with another person.  That was another problem the last time she had someone.  It's hard to totally trust someone new but if she wants to restore herself, like she says, she will have let the new person work.  One thing I am concerned about is the would-be carer's access to mum's financial and health information.   The would-be carer said she was able to take mum to appointments and go to the market for her but I hope mum doesn't trust her enough to give over her bank card, leave out confidential papers, or let her sit in on the exams.  It sounds paranoid but I've read too many stories about "compassionate and loving" caregivers taking serious advantage of their clients: getting them to sign over power of attorney and gain full control over health and financial matters.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Anyway, time for dinner.
