Hello Everyone:
A damp day for me. Fortunately I was able to get in a run and do my errands before it started raining, more like sprinkle. Nevertheless, it's still pretty gray and damp. It doesn't bother me. I decided to fill out a couple retail job applications. I figure I could do that so I can get the funds I need to do the things I want to do. One of those things is possibly go back to grad school. I was thinking about it this morning during my run. I'm still not sure what I want to focus on. I was recently blogging about communities that take it upon themselves to fix up their neighborhood as a way to curtail crime. It sounds like a good subject, one that I can incorporate a historic preservation element. I go back and forth on that subject. I can't settle on what to do my thesis or dissertation on and whether or not I want to go back. I know I want to focus on urban planning and design but what specifically and why is another story. Stuff I think about on my run. So I figure if I get a bill paying job I can decide what's next. One thing that does appeal to me is writing about the intersection between architecture, movies, and music et cetera. I wrote about detective novelist Raymond Chandler's use of Los Angeles in his books for a class in grad school. It's a fun exercise that let's me indulge myself a little. Truthfully, I kind of like those writerly indulgences. A nice break from the serious academic stuff. Could I make a living from it? Maybe. I have a public forum or two to get the word out. However, a paying job let's me invest in the tools I need to do what do. Speaking of which, I need to stop, go home, and recharge the Bluetooth keyboard.
